Fire Erupts at Rivian’s Illinois Plant, Damaging EVs, No Injuries

Fire breaks out at Rivian's plant parking lot Saturday night. 

Several electric vehicles were damaged, no injuries reported. 

Incident occurred in Normal, Illinois, 130 miles from Chicago.

– Fire happened in a parking lot; assembly plant remains unaffected.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation by officials. 

Rivian has not confirmed the number or type of vehicles affected. 

Rivian’s Normal plant currently produces R1S SUVs and R1T pickups. 

Facility is expanding to build R2 SUVs by 2026 for growth. 

Company recently paused production for retooling to cut manufacturing costs. 

Rivian also paused Amazon delivery van production due to part shortages.
