TSA will soon ease restrictions on liquid items in carry-on bags, moving away from the long-standing 3-1-1 rule.

TSA Liquid Rule Changes Coming Soon

The 3-1-1 rule limits liquids to 100ml per container and a total of 1 liter per passenger, introduced after 9/11.

Current 3-1-1 Rule Overview

Several countries, including European nations, have already lifted similar liquid restrictions, allowing full-size items.

Certain liquids like baby formula, medications, and saline solutions are already exempt from the 3-1-1 rule.

Allowed Items Include Medical Necessities

Full-size items such as nasal sprays, eye drops, and aerosol deodorants will be allowed in carry-on luggage.

TSA's Proposed Exemptions

Liquids purchased in duty-free shops, sealed in tamper-evident bags, will continue to be exempt from size restrictions.

While changes are underway, complete relaxation of liquid restrictions may not be seen until at least 2040.
