Jill Jacobson, the talented actress known for her memorable roles in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and the iconic soap opera “Falcon Crest,” has sadly passed away at the age of 70. She died on December 8 in Los Angeles after battling a long illness, as confirmed by her friend and publicist, Daniel Harary.
Jacobson’s career was a vibrant tapestry woven through various genres in film and television. She first gained attention with the title role in the low-budget horror film “Nurse Sherri” in 1977. Her versatility allowed her to shine in numerous television series, including “Days of Our Lives,” “Hung,” “Newhart,” “Castle,” and “Who’s the Boss?” Notably, she portrayed Erin Jones on “Falcon Crest” for an impressive 22 episodes from 1985 to 1987, captivating audiences with her charm and comedic timing.
Reflecting on her time with Jacobson, her manager Ben Padua shared heartfelt sentiments, describing her as a “beautiful, soulful, hysterically funny, elegantly raunchy client.” He added, “Jill was a total spitfire of an actress with comedic timing straight out of a Marx Brothers’ flick and Hollywood glamour right from its golden age.” Her co-star from “The New Gidget,” Caryn Richman, echoed these sentiments, recalling Jacobson’s brilliant comic timing and infectious enthusiasm that made their time on set joyful.
Throughout her career, Jacobson showcased her talent across various platforms. She appeared in both “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” demonstrating her ability to transcend genres. Her last credited role was in the 2020 horror anthology series “Etheria.”
Beyond her acting career, Jacobson was also known for her advocacy work with the American Cancer Society. During a September interview on the Jim Masters Show, she opened up about her two-and-a-half-year battle with esophageal cancer, stating, “What I went through was pretty intense. You can’t function; you just can’t function. And now I’m so grateful; I just want to keep going. I want to help people.” This desire to help others reflected her positive spirit even in the face of adversity.
Jacobson leaves behind not only a legacy of laughter and talent but also cherished memories among friends and family. Her family released a statement saying she was “beautiful, energetic, and positive to the end,” emphasizing that she would be deeply missed by numerous relatives, friends, and her beloved dogs Benny and Kowalski.
