At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Chappell Roan made headlines not just for her medieval-inspired red carpet look but also for a fiery confrontation with a photographer.
While posing for photos at the event, a photographer aggressively shouted at her to “shut the f—k up,” prompting Roan to snap back, telling the photographer, “You shut the f—k up.” She further asserted herself by adding, “Not me, b—h,” before resuming her poses as the crowd responded with cheers.
Roan, known for her candidness, later opened up about the incident, explaining how she often feels anxious in loud, high-pressure environments and stood up for herself in that moment, saying, “You don’t get to yell at me like that.”
The evening turned out to be a success for Roan, as she claimed her first-ever MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, dedicating her win to the LGBTQ+ community and the drag artists who inspire her.
During her acceptance speech, she also reached out to queer youth in the Midwest, saying, “I see you, I understand you, because I am one of you.”
