You made sure to check with Naomi Watts before taking on your latest role as Liev Schreiber’s onscreen wife. After all, you and Naomi have been best friends for over 30 years, and maintaining that closeness means everything to both of you.

While promoting The Perfect Couple, you and Liev laughed about your reactions to being cast together as the Winburys. You joked about having to “beg” him to “marry” you onscreen, and Liev mentioned how he heard that you’d first reached out to Naomi for her approval. You confirmed it, and Liev was impressed, saying it shows just how close you and Naomi are.

Naomi, for her part, confirmed that you did check in with her. As besties, you two always look out for each other. It was something she appreciated deeply.

Naomi and Liev were together from 2005 to 2016 and have remained on good terms while co-parenting their children, Sasha and Kai. You and Naomi’s bond, though, goes back even further to when you first met in the 1980s at an audition for a swimsuit commercial. Even after neither of you landed the part, you struck up a friendship that has only grown stronger over the decades.

Naomi even presented you with the AFI Life Achievement Award in April, sharing how you generously paid for her taxi ride home that first day you met, calling you the “sister she never had.”

Your friendship has only deepened over the years, as you’ve supported each other through life’s big moments, including Naomi’s wedding to Billy Crudup in June, which you attended, calling it “fun, beautiful,” and “deeply memorable.”

In The Perfect Couple, you take on the role of Greer Garrison Winbury, a famous novelist and disapproving mother-in-law. When a body is discovered at your son’s wedding, secrets unravel, and everyone becomes a suspect. Now, as the series streams on Netflix, it’s another opportunity to share your talent, supported by your longtime friend.
