Kendrick Lamar has made a surprise return with a new track titled “Watch the Party Die”, marking his first release since the chart-topping single “Not Like Us.”

The five-minute song, released on Lamar’s Instagram, is packed with thought-provoking lines and pointed references. He mentions notable figures like Christian rapper Lecrae, jazz musician Terrace Martin, and even takes a potential shot at media personality DJ Akademiks, accusing him of promoting false narratives for monetary gain.

The track also alludes to Lamar’s long-standing tensions with Drake, hinting that their beef may still be simmering. In one line, he raps about taking matters into his own hands, suggesting that “tough love” sometimes leads to more aggressive outcomes.

Fans speculate that the cover art, showing beat-up sneakers, is a subtle jab at Drake, given the cover for Drake’s single “Push Ups” made a dig at Lamar’s shoe size.

This release follows the massive success of “Not Like Us,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of Lamar’s most successful tracks, dominating various charts.

Lamar’s return also coincides with the announcement that he will headline the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, his second appearance since his memorable performance alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige in 2022. Lamar proudly emphasized the influence of rap, saying, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre, and I’ll be there to remind the world why.”
